“Canada to Unveil Eco-Friendly Support for Auto Industry”

Prime Minister Mark Carney and Ontario Premier Doug Ford are anticipated to introduce fresh assistance for automotive companies investing in eco-friendly technologies amidst the uncertainties stemming from the trade conflict with the U.S., as per information obtained by CBC News. The announcement, scheduled for later today, will reportedly focus on aligning Canada’s greenhouse gas regulations following recent modifications by the Trump administration.

The United States recently finalized the rollback of fuel efficiency standards for new vehicles, overturning measures aimed at enhancing fuel economy and encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles. Carney and Ford are set to reveal the support package at Parliament Hill this afternoon, alongside their industry and finance counterparts.

In a previous development, U.S. President Donald Trump had threatened to raise tariffs to 50% on all cars, trucks, auto parts, and steel by January 1, 2027. This move came in response to Carney’s decision to impose equivalent tariffs on American goods. The U.S. is currently imposing 25% levies on imported finished vehicles and non-CUSMA-compliant auto parts, while Canadian steel imports have been subjected to tariffs ranging from 10% to 50% by the Trump administration.
