“Highly Anticipated ‘Yaga’ Premiere on Crave to Delight Fans”

The highly anticipated premiere of “Yaga” on Crave this weekend is set to attract two main groups of viewers: fans of Hudson Williams eagerly awaiting his next project after “Heated Rivalry,” and those who embrace the spooky season fervently. The eight-episode half-hour drama has garnered significant attention not only for Williams but also for its star-studded Canadian cast, including Carrie-Anne Moss, Noah Reid, Clark Backo, and Megan Follows.

Set in the fictional town of Whittock, filmed on the misty Vancouver Island, the series offers a tantalizing mix of mystery and romance, with Williams portraying dual characters in a world where a wealthy family holds power while witches wield their influence without fear.

Described by cast member Sheila McCarthy as a blend of “Dexter with witches,” the show will debut its first two episodes on Friday, followed by weekly releases leading up to the two-episode season finale on Nov. 27.

Before transitioning to a streaming series, “Yaga” originated as a play that premiered at Toronto’s Tarragon Theatre in September 2019. The play, nominated for a Dora Award, combined folklore and mystery, featuring three actors portraying multiple roles.

Kat Sandler, the writer and showrunner for the streaming series, expressed excitement about expanding the story with a talented cast and creative team. The transition from stage to screen was seamless, adding depth and complexity to the narrative.

The character development in the show saw Hudson Williams taking on a dual role that was originally portrayed as a single character in the play. Sandler explained that the decision to split the role was made to enhance the storyline and introduce more intrigue to the narrative.

“Baba Yaga,” a character from Slavic folklore, serves as a central inspiration for the show. Known for her enigmatic presence and dual nature as both a malevolent witch and a wise mentor, Baba Yaga embodies themes of darkness, transformation, and feminine power.

“Yaga” not only showcases powerful women on screen but also features a predominantly female creative team behind the scenes. The cast and crew have embraced the show’s vision wholeheartedly, with a collaborative and supportive atmosphere enhancing the storytelling process.

As the premiere date approaches, anticipation for “Yaga” continues to build, with Sandler expressing a mix of excitement and empowerment, emphasizing the significance of bringing such a show to audiences.
