A water fixture at Chief Albert Wright School in TulıÌt’a, N.W.T., has been decommissioned due to elevated lead levels discovered during recent testing. The territorial government disclosed in a news release that 22 water outlets, including fountains and sinks, underwent lead and copper testing at the school. While one outlet exceeded Health Canada’s lead concentration standards, none surpassed the copper guidelines.
Following lead detection in water at three Yellowknife schools in 2025, the territory introduced a new lead testing procedure for school drinking water last year. The government plans to either replace the affected fixture at the TulıÌt’a school or install a filter. Subsequent water testing will be conducted post-intervention to ensure safety compliance.
