Porter Airlines has unveiled plans for a significant expansion at London International Airport, with the introduction of five new year-round domestic routes starting in the upcoming spring season. These new services will offer direct flights from London to Vancouver, Edmonton, Halifax, Ottawa, and Montreal.
After nearly five years of discussions between Porter and the airport, Scott McFadzean, the CEO of London International Airport, expressed his joy at the announcement, stating, “It’s been a long time coming, but I couldn’t be happier. This community deserves it.” He hopes that the new routes will cater to travelers across Southwestern Ontario, driving further growth in the future.
The launch dates for the four routes to Halifax, Vancouver, Ottawa, and Montreal are set for April 12, 2027, while the Edmonton service will commence on May 6. Additionally, Porter has recently added four more routes from London to sunny destinations in Florida, Mexico, and Jamaica.
Kevin Jackson, President of Porter Airlines, highlighted the airline’s decision to tap into the potential of the London market, stating, “It’s two and a half million people that live close to this airport, and it is really underserved with almost no real domestic service.” He emphasized that the new routes will benefit both business and leisure travelers.
Porter Airlines will operate flights to Ottawa and Montreal up to three times a day, catering to same-day return trips. The routes will be serviced by 78-seat De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft. Flights to Halifax, Vancouver, and Edmonton will utilize Porter’s larger 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 aircraft.
With the Vancouver route operating up to 11 times a week and Halifax and Edmonton each having up to seven weekly flights, Porter aims to provide convenient options for travelers in Southwestern Ontario, offering a nearby alternative to major airports like Toronto Pearson.
Both Porter and McFadzean emphasized that the new routes aim to enhance travel options for Southwestern Ontario residents, allowing for hassle-free and comfortable journeys. Porter’s services will include its standard economy offerings, such as complimentary beer and wine, snacks, and Wi-Fi on E195-E2 aircraft, along with Porter Reserve amenities for added comfort on longer flights.
Travelers can now book flights online for all five new routes.
