Guelph authorities seek public assistance in an ongoing sexual assault case involving a man who purportedly claimed to be an off-duty police officer. According to a statement released on Monday, a 15-year-old girl reported being sexually assaulted in the early hours of August 20. The incident occurred when the teen and another youth approached a vintage, red truck in Guelph around 1:30 a.m., seeking a ride to the Guelph train station.
The driver of the vehicle allegedly identified himself as an off-duty officer, providing details that convinced the 15-year-old that he was indeed a police officer. After driving the teens around the city and dropping off the friend at an unspecified location, the driver took the teen to a nearby parking lot where the reported sexual assault occurred. Subsequently, a 69-year-old individual was arrested on August 22 after voluntarily visiting the police station.
Individuals with any relevant information are urged to reach out to the Guelph Police Service for assistance.
