The Kings District RCMP were notified after midnight on August 5 that the mailbox and its contents had been taken, while two other mailboxes remained at the location on Cape Bear Road. The incident impacts approximately 15 households, according to Cpl. Gavin Moore, a media relations officer with the P.E.I. RCMP.
Moore emphasized the significance of the stolen mailboxes, describing them as robust structures that require substantial force to remove. He highlighted the unusual nature of the theft, particularly in rural areas where minimal activity is expected during late hours. Canada Post has acknowledged the theft and mentioned that their security and investigative teams are collaborating with the RCMP. The community mailbox has been replaced, and regular mail delivery is scheduled to resume on August 21. Affected residents were able to collect their mail at the Murray Harbour Post Office in the meantime, with new mailbox keys available for pickup starting August 20.
