Tragic Water Incident Claims Two Lives in Nain

Two individuals from the Mushuau Innu First Nation lost their lives in a water incident near Nain on Sunday. The Mushuau Innu First Nation expressed condolences to the families and friends of the deceased on social media. The cause of their passing was not disclosed. The statement expressed gratitude towards the first responders and support teams who aided in locating and bringing back the bodies to Nain. The community urged people to avoid speculating online out of respect for the affected individuals and asked for privacy.

The band office in Natuashish will be closed on Monday, but the finance office in Happy Valley-Goose Bay will remain open. Requests for more details have been made to the RCMP by CBC News. Premier Tony Wakeham extended sympathies to the Natuashish community and the Mushuau Innu First Nation, acknowledging the support provided by responders during the tragic event.

Lela Evans, Torngat Mountains MHA and Minister of Labrador Affairs, also offered condolences, stating that the individuals passed away in a boating incident. She appreciated the efforts of Nain’s volunteer search and rescue teams for their assistance in bringing closure to the families and loved ones of the deceased.
