“O2 Warns of SIM Card Scam Targeting iPhone and Android Users”

An urgent warning has been issued to iPhone and Android users by O2 regarding a new scam targeting customers in the UK. The scam involves fraudulent messages claiming that customers’ SIM cards will be deactivated due to their failure to accept updated Terms and Conditions. The messages use urgent language and appear to be from an official O2 number, making them difficult to spot as fake.

If you are an O2 customer, be cautious of a message stating, “O2UK: IMPORTANT: Your SIM Card(s) will be inactive on 04/06/2026, because you have NOT signed our Terms and Conditions. Logon to sign.” This message includes a link to a fake website aimed at stealing personal information, which scammers may use to access accounts and compromise passwords.

Customers should avoid clicking on any links in messages claiming their O2 SIM is expiring. Instead, they should verify the message’s authenticity by accessing their account through the official O2 channels or contacting the network directly.

Murray Mackenzie, Director of Fraud Prevention at Virgin Media O2, emphasized the increasing sophistication of scammers and their use of believable tactics to target victims. Virgin Media O2 is taking steps to combat scams, including blocking scam texts and websites and enhancing fraud monitoring on online accounts.

O2 has provided advice for customers to protect themselves, such as being wary of urgent or threatening messages, avoiding clicking on unexpected links, and changing passwords if login details have been compromised. It is crucial to stay vigilant and report suspicious messages to help prevent scams.
