In late June, 11 young individuals faced charges following a Montreal police probe into the events leading up to a police officer fatally shooting a teenager on the South Shore. The Quebec Crown prosecutor’s office recently revealed that the 11 accused individuals have been granted a stay of legal proceedings due to the emergence of new information that raised intricate legal issues.
The youths were accused of various offenses, including involvement in a conspiracy to abduct, conspiracy to commit assault, wearing disguises for criminal purposes, possessing a weapon for dangerous intent, participating in an unlawful assembly, and failing to comply with court orders. This investigation by the Montreal police is one of many that ensued after the tragic shooting of 15-year-old Nooran Rezayi on September 21, 2025.
Following an inquiry by Quebec’s police oversight body, which submitted its findings to the Crown prosecutor’s office (DPCP), it remains uncertain whether the police officer responsible for the teen’s death will face charges.
