A senior citizen passed away 20 days after being robbed while withdrawing money from a cash machine in north London.
Jalal Khan, aged 76, sustained a head injury during the robbery on October 30 and was quickly taken to the hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, November 19. Known for his gentle and kind-hearted nature, Jalal resided just a short distance from the post office where the attack occurred on High Street in Ponders End.
According to the police, a call reporting a robbery and assault on High Street in Ponders End was received just after 11 a.m. on October 30. Jalal Khan was found with head injuries and was transported to the hospital in a life-threatening state. Regrettably, he passed away on November 19. His family is receiving support from specialized officers and has requested privacy during this challenging period.
An employee at the post office mentioned that Jalal was targeted while using the ATM outside. The employee recalled Jalal as a familiar face in the area, always following a routine and known for his kindness. The incident took place just outside the shop while Jalal was withdrawing cash.
In remembrance of Jalal, Rasel Alam, the owner of the Enfield Food Hall, described him as an exceptionally kind and peaceful individual. Alam expressed deep sorrow over the loss, highlighting Jalal’s friendly demeanor and community involvement.
A neighbor praised Jalal as a compassionate and ideal neighbor, expressing shock that such a tragic event could happen so close to his residence.
Following the incident, the police gathered CCTV footage and ring doorbell recordings from the vicinity. Jaesis Boatswain, 40, residing in Enfield, has been charged with offenses related to the incident and appeared in court. He is currently in custody awaiting his next court appearance.
