Mike Morreale Named President of Ottawa Redblacks

Mike Morreale is set to make a return to the CFL, this time as the new president of the Ottawa Redblacks. The announcement comes following reports from TSN. When asked about the news, the Redblacks did not confirm the report to CBC News on Tuesday.

Hailing from Hamilton and aged 55, Morreale had a successful playing career, spending 12 seasons with the Toronto Argonauts (1995-96, 2002-03) and the Tiger-Cats (1997-2001, 2004-06), where he clinched two Grey Cups in 1996 and 1999. He was recognized as the league’s top Canadian in 1998 and later received the Tom Pate Memorial Award for his exceptional contributions to his team, community, and the CFL Players’ Association (CFLPA).

Following his playing career, Morreale held roles within the CFLPA, serving as marketing director from 2007 to 2012 and as president from 2012 to 2014. In 2017, he co-founded the Canadian Elite Basketball League and served as its first commissioner before stepping down from the position in October 2025.

The Ottawa Redblacks recently ended a 22-game losing streak in their final home game amidst a challenging season. This turnaround comes after Adrian Sciarra stepped down from his role as the team’s president back in August.
